Considering a Career in Care? Read This

Are you thinking of starting a career in home care? If you are, you’ve come to the right place!

If you are completely new to care, you may be worried or have some concerns or questions. This guide is designed to answer some of those questions and concerns to help you decide if a career in care is for you.

Have you ever felt like you weren’t good enough to be a carer? Like your skills were too limited, or that you didn’t have the right experience?

You might be surprised to know that a good portion of our amazing carers that work for us didn’t have any previous care experience when they joined.

Our carers come from all kinds of backgrounds. Some have been been office workers, some have been artists or musicians, and some are students. But they all share one thing in common: they’re passionate about helping others and committed to providing the best care possible.

You can take a look at our post here which shines the spotlight on 2 of our carers, one who joined us at 21 years old and our carer from the Borders who is 75. Age is not a limiting factor in any way for becoming a carer, and it’s never too late to switch careers into care.

At SRS Care Solutions, we provide all the training you will need to go into your role confident and prepared. All our training is also free!

Our trainers have decades of experience working in the field, and we believe that you can’t learn something without doing it. Our home care training combines theoretical knowledge with practical demonstrations using equipment that carers will use on the job.

We want you to walk away knowing exactly what it’s like to work as a home care worker.

Our trainers will show you how to use hoists and bed slings in a safe, effective manner. You’ll learn many things like how to lift the service user without straining your back or putting undue pressure on their joints or bones. The right equipment is essential for ensuring that you can lift them comfortably, without causing injury or discomfort. In addition, we’ll show you how important it is that you follow correct procedures when using these devices.

Through hands-on training and practical real life scenarios, you will be fully prepared for your role and confident with your skills.

Once you’ve completed training, we don’t just throw you in the deep end. We provide shadow shifts initially and ensure you are paired up with an experienced carer who can help mentor you.

Shadowing is a great way for new carers to develop confidence within their role as well as get a better understanding of the needs of the service users they will be caring for.

We always aim to pair you up with the same service users on your runs. This gives you the opportunity to build a rapport with the service user so that you can give them the best possible care.

At SRS Care Solutions, we believe in investing in our staff. We want to make sure that you feel supported and encouraged in your role, so that you can continue to grow and develop as an individual and as a professional. Our friendly management team is always there should you have any concerns or questions.

We are also a big believe of promoting from within and offer career progression opportunities for carers all the way up to senior management positions. As you progress through roles with us, you will have access to a wealth of training and development opportunities so that you can continue learning throughout your career with us. There are many success stories from our fantastic staff who have worked their way up through the company to senior positions. You can take a look at some on this page.

Care is an extremely rewarding but also challenging career with many opportunities for career progression and growth.

We’re looking for people who are ready to take on these challenges, who have the drive and determination to push themselves and make a difference in the lives of others. If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!
